"Slava's Snowshow," a clowning achievement, breaks down the barriers between performers and audience. The jesters throw water on the spectators, toss their coats around, climb over seats, touch them and make them laugh, writes Michelle Zhang.
Clowns usually take supporting roles. With their peculiar makeup, outlandish costumes and silly movements, they are there to make people laugh.
However, Slava Polunin believes clowning is a great art and he is dedicated to giving clowns starring rolls.
The Russian clown master's renowned "Snowshow" has wowed theatergoers around the world and finally has arrived in Shanghai. Every night, the Opera Hall at Shanghai Oriental Art Center is packed with an exhilarated audience, filled with laughter and snowflake-like white confetti.
