Euro 2008 continues to thrill with dramatic twists and historic results coming in over the weekend.
Sunday saw Turkey snatch victory from the jaws of defeat as they dragged themselves back into their game against the Czech Republic, finally winning 3-2.
With only fifteen minutes left on the clock, the Turks were losing by two goals to nil, and looked set to be dumped out of the competition, but a low drive from Turkey¡¯s Arda Turan got them back in the game.
The drama increased in the 88th minute when the Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech, thought by many to be the best keeper in the world, fumbled an easy save, dropping the ball at the feet of Turkey¡¯s captain who tapped in .
Moments later the Turks scored again to earn themselves a place in the quarter-finals and send the Czech team back home.
After the game Cech admitted it was his howler that cost his team the match.
"It was my mistake that decided that we have to go home," said Cech.
Other exciting games this weekend included Holland¡¯s 4-1 thrashing of France and Switzerland¡¯s surprise 2-0 victory over a Portugal 'B team' .
Holland have particularly impressed in the tournament and could now be favourites to win the competition.
In fact the Dutch have even surprised themselves with the strong start they have made.
Holland striker Ruud van Nistelrooy said the team "are still trying to get their heads round" their fantastic form , by which he meant they are in the process of accepting how well they have done.
"It seems everything is falling into place , confidence is there and it lifts the team," said van Nistelrooy, meaning that the team¡¯s morale is good, thanks to the belief they have in themselves.
But fellow Dutchman Arjen Robben warned against getting carried away by their early success.
"They are great results but we have to stay down to earth," he said, meaning they must remain realistic and not believe they have already won the competition.
But at the top of their group and with more goals scored than any other team in the tournament so far, Holland must be seriously in contention to win it.
